RSVP-CARS FOR CARERS
Community transport in Pembrokeshire

In March of this year "The Western Telegraph" reported that there could be over 13,000 unpaid carers in Pembrokeshire, a largely rural county where public transport can be a problem. Cars for Carers seeks to provide transport for unpaid carers looking after family members, friends or neighbours. We have a small bank of dedicated volunteer drivers who take our carers on essential journeys in Pembrokeshire, be it shopping, an appointment or that vital contact with friends or organizations. The carer can travel either as a sole passenger, or with their cared-for person. And with a small contribution from the carer towards the cost of the journey, we can get people moving!

We are looking for new volunteer drivers, so if you fancy doing some driving in your spare time, or if you know anybody who may be interested, we would love to hear from you. This is a rewarding pastime: our drivers talk about the "feelgood factor" in contributing to a much-needed community project, drivers' expenses are paid and the social side is gradually being developed.

If you are in the Pembrokeshire area and would like to take part in this scheme, please call Lynda Hill on Haverfordwest 01437 768195 or Rachel Evans on 01239 623876 or email at cars4carersrsvp@csv.org.uk

Would you like to be an achiever too?

Have you a few hours a week to spare to listen to primary school children read?

A Stitch in Time Saves Nine

In the case of the RSVP Pembrokeshire knitting circle, there was never a truer word. RSVP needs knitters from all over the county to help people in Eastern Bloc countries like Rumania, Moldova and The Ukraine by knitting or crocheting warm clothing and blankets. Regular convoys to these areas by CWU Humanitarian Aid, take all sorts of aid to help children in particular who may be living in orphanages and literally have nothing. If you like knitting and are able to spend a few hours each week making clothes or blankets or if you would like to be an knitting circle organiser in your own area, then RSVP Pembrokeshire would like to hear from you.
