AWARD ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FOR BLAENAU GWENT ORGANISER
Dian Morgan, Knitting Organiser for Blaenau Gwent, has recently been acknowledged in the Blaenau Gwent Annual Volunteer Awards by being named runner-up in the fiercely competitive 'New Volunteer' category. Dian has been a volunteer with RSVP for about 18 months. Prior to this time she had no experience of volunteering in the voluntary sector. Dian was initially recruited as a volunteer knitter, however it was apparent from a very early stage that Dian was interested in identifying the real needs of the community.
She
very quickly became more involved within the project and became a volunteer
organiser last year. In a very short time within this role, she has considerably
increased the distribution outlets for knitted garments, distributed more items
for local fundraising, has identified needs within the community that were being
unmet, and has built up relationships with a number of local RSVP volunteers
and groups.
Listening to Children Read
We are currently recruiting volunteers
who would like to listen to children read in their local primary school. If
you are interested, or would like information please contact
Natasha on 01495 353113
or njohn.rsvp1@btopenworld.com
Knitting for Moldova
A big thank you goes out to all the volunteer knitters who contributed to the September convoy being taken out to Moldova. I know that your blankets, hats, gloves and scarves, and jumpers, etc. are much appreciated and will be well used. Thanks!
Knitting for Community Needs
We have received many thanks from local organisations that have distributed knitted garments to fill some direct needs of the local communities of Blaenau Gwent. I am sure RSVP knitters will endeavour to continue to meet these needs. A big Thanks!
Premature Baby Clothes
It is becoming more and more apparent that the local hospitals are currently receiving more premature baby jacket, bonnets and booties than they can distribute. If you really enjoy knitting for the babies, why not try knitting the full-size jackets or 0-3 months. There are certainly plenty of needy families within Blaenau Gwent that would very much appreciate these items.
Developing a Credit Union
The Wales Cooperative Centre are at present setting up a Credit Union in the Blaenau Gwent area. Joelle Campbell, the local coordinator is currently working with RSVP to recruit local volunteers interested in volunteering for the scheme. If you would like any more information regarding the development of the local credit union please contact Joelle on 01495 304482.
